West Sussex Policy and Character National Demonstration Project
This project was set up to assess how landscape character, settlement character and local distinctiveness studies could be integrated into the new Local Development Framework system. A set of generic clauses were devised to address the vision, objectives, core policies and development control policies. Also an indicative Supplementary Planning Document was drafted for Character Guidelines. This addressed generic principles and process and also area based guidelines eg High Weald.
The role of strategic gaps as policy tools were also explored. This issue is of particular importance in the coastal towns which have developed to create small, pressured gaps between them.
